BIOGRAPHY: "The Julius Buchholz Story" LANG SYNE: A HISTORY OF LANG SASKATCHEWAN (Lang: Lang Syne History Book Committee, 1980) at 178 (illustrated). Julius and Ernestine (Mantai) Buccholz arrived in Ibsen, Saskatchewan, in June of 1909. Ibsen was only a flag station between Lang and Yellow Grass. They were accompanied by six of their 11 children; the five older ones, being already married, were en route to the Lang-Yellow Grass area on their own. The youngest member of the Buchholz family was Tillie aged nine, who had contracted the measles when they arrived in Winnipeg. Dr. Stevens was now called from Yellow Grass and advised the family to seek isolation with relatives to avoid spreading the disease. Consequently "Uncle" Mantai who farmed near Yellow Grass took them in, providing bunks in an old machine shed, until the quarantine was ended. Further progress was to settle the family on the "old" MacMillan place, with two horses and a cow. In 1911, Augusta was married to Adolph Arndt, and the family then moved to a farm at Ibsen owned then by Max Lieske. Matilda and Louise obtained work while Fred, Carl and Tillie remained at home to help their parents. Before too long, in 1915 or 1916, Matilda was married to John Becker and Fred, Carl and Tillie sought employment away from home. In 1919, when Carl married and settled on the Max Lieske farm, Julius and Ernesting Buchholz retired to the town of Lang. Fred and Louise (Mrs. Bill Wallenberg) were now also married, and in 1921 Tillie came home to her parents in Lang for her wedding. She is Mrs. Bill Mundt of Weyburn. The elder couple eked out their living with the garden and a cow. Julius Buchholz succumbed to cancer in 1923 at the age of 73 [sic, actual age was 76]. His wife Ernestine being accomplished in home hursing took care of him at home until his death. She continued to earn her living by supplying her customes with fresh milk daily, which was delivered by a grand-daughter. She died of a strokein 1927 at the age of 71. Both people are burried in the Lang cemetary.
